The Parking Maintenance & Repair department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our Parking Services Technician, who inspects, maintains and repairs District “pay and display” parking machines and meters, collects and transports machine/meter monies, inspects and maintains District parking and pedestrian areas and lots, and coordinates parking for District special events. Enforces District parking and traffic regulations by issuing citations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, using approved citation systems and evidence-documentation practices. Trains and provides lead work direction to parking enforcement student workersParking Services Technician performs various duties to facilitate safe and easy access to District campuses, to assist in generating parking revenue for the District by ensuring that parking meters and machines are in good working order, and to ensure full District compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and codes applicable to parking and pedestrian areas and traffic flow. Assigned work requires the use of journey-level mechanical, technical and diagnostic skills to maintain and repair District parking meters and machines and a thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and codes, District policies and procedures, safety and other issues applicable to areas of responsibility. An incumbent in this position regularly interacts with District management, staff, students, and the general public, handling parking related routine to non-routine inquiries, complaints and problems.

  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
  • Position Status: Permanent
  • Schedule: Variable Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. 
  • Location: Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) but will support both campuses.
  • Salary: Range 28, $5,007.11 - $6,156.99 Monthly. This vacancy is subject to a variable pay range.
  • *Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications

Position Duties

GENERAL PURPOSE

Enforces District parking and traffic regulations by issuing citations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, using approved citation systems and evidence-documentation practices. Trains and provides lead work direction to parking enforcement student workers and performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience: 

Associates degree in a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience assisting in the development, implementation and coordination of a large parking program and experience with repairing and maintaining parking machines and meters or similar equipment that have solar panels, regulators and computer-based programming; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35 hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable.


Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: 
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
  
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs*** 
  • in-person or online:
    1. written examination(s)
    2. qualifications appraisal oral examination 
    3. performance examination
    4. technical oral examination
      (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Performance Examination (25%) and Qualification appraisal interview (75%) (in-person only): Week of November 3, 2025
