About the Department
Position Duties

- Plans, prioritizes and organizes the installation, maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines.
- Manages the maintenance of pump stations for water distribution and sewer collection systems and fire protection systems.
- Manages the response to complaints from customers.
- Coordinates the maintenance of files, records and preparation of reports.
- Manages the receipt, investigation and response to inquiries and complaints concerning water and sewer services.
- Prioritizes service orders concerning new services, meter installations, water/sewer line and service extensions and repairs, fire hydrant service, repair and replacement and maintenance of lift stations, pump stations and telemetry equipment.
- Reviews completed records and repair reports from crews.
- Plans for the installation and maintenance of water and sewer lines, pump stations, vacuum stations and related facilities.
- Reviews water and sewer plans and specifications submitted by land developers.
- Works with regulating agencies to maintain the certifications of these agencies on both water distribution and waste collection systems.
- Manages the inspection of water and sewer materials, installation and testing as installed for project developers.
- Consults with management and engineers concerning the technical aspects of water and sewer installations.
- Manages the acquisition of equipment, supplies and materials.
- Works in the preparation of the division budget and monitors expenditures.
- Evaluates the work performance of water and sewer employees.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Assist City Engineer in preparation of annual budget for the Water Resources Division
Minimum Qualifications
Other Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive experience in the repair, and maintenance of water and sewer systems including considerable supervisory experience.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of or ability to acquire Grade A water distribution and Grade IV wastewater collection certificates issued by the State of North Carolina within one year of employment.
