Job Summary

Unload, move, and store a variety of materials, parts or products. Move material between departments, plants, storerooms, and yards, following routings, move tickets or instructions. Operate hand trucks, forklift trucks, walking cranes, hoists, etc.

 

Essential Functions:  

  1. Maintaining materials for cells by:
  • Receiving production schedule, PO’s and WO’s from scheduler.
  • Work with operator/supervisor to plan for upcoming jobs through DBR schedule at each cell.
  • Contacting Material Manager, for each work area, to release the PO’s needed for the week.     
  • Making sure all materials have certifications when the material is delivered by the steel supplier.  If certifications are not present, contact the Material Manager, who will contact supplier for certification to be emailed to SGW.
  • Checking certification paperwork with SGW’s WO to ensure that the material delivered is of the proper grade and size.  Use highlighter marker on certification and WO to show that they match.
  • Ensuring that a copy of the certification is made for the WO, an original is in the SGW file and ensuring that there is a certification in every WO that is issued.   
  1. Production
  • Monitoring receiving/inspection bay throughout the day and moves parts to the next operation, validating signature of authorization before the 24-hour inspection.  If parts have been in receiving bay more than 24 hours, alerts supervisor to situation.
  • Going to work stations throughout the day to remove finished goods, and takes the goods to the next operation (i.e. hob, OSP, etc.).
  • When possible, consolidating parts into single containers.
  • Keeping all receiving bays neat and orderly.
  • Helping with packing and making sure all previous jobs are caught up before working shipping dock.
  • Filling in for Utility person – running saw, chamfering bars, loading bars, dumping chip hoppers and miscellaneous activities as instructed.

3. Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:

  • Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines.
  • Maintain the 6S program in assigned area.
  • Submitting required number of continuous improvement ideas 
  1. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
  • Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
  • Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
  • Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvements.
  • Resolving problems.
  • Performing other job-related duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  1. Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the

     ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 40 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist 

     level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.

  1. Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms and take

     messages in a legible, accurate manner.

  1. Two-year certification from technical school or two plus years of previous experience.
  1. Must be able to communicate in English.
  1. Ability to use a computer
  1. Requires a valid Chauffeur's license to pick up and deliver supplies and equipment, or the

     ability to obtain such a license within one month of hire.

  1. Requires ability to use heavy machinery such as forklifts, manual and electric power pallet jacks and

     over-the-road trucks (including 13 ton, 24-foot box truck).

 

Working Conditions:

  1. Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
  1. This job is to be performed at the designated facility 100% of the time unless directed otherwise by manager/supervisor.
