Description

OBJECTIVE:


The Extrusion Process Technician is responsible for prepping and operating machinery used to produce plastic profile products in a manufacturing environment. Key functions include determining the proper forms, lengths, and diameters for production, prepping extruding machinery, sorting materials, and operating equipment. Technicians must also install, connect, test, and adjust equipment as needed.

  • Read and comprehend written process procedures, shadowgraphs, S.P.C. instructions, and problem-solving guidelines to improve processes and meet production requirements.
  • Clean tooling and verify equipment is working correctly. 
  • Checking parts for product quality and ensuring the process is compliant with occupational regulations.
  • Train extrusion support personnel in quality and job requirements.
  • Accurately assemble, disassemble, clean, and polish tooling.
  • Safely handle hot tooling required in machine set-ups, tear-downs, and normal machine operations. Evaluate shadowgraphs to recommend tooling improvements to meet profile specifications.
  • Record and maintain accurate production records, which include input of daily production rates/hours and input.
  • Operate and interpret manual and computerized gauges to verify that quality products are being produced. Notify supervision of non-conforming conditions.
  • Must be continuous and regular in attendance. 
  • Safely operate a forklift when necessary.
  • Run extrusion processes to standardize scrap rates/start-up, shutdown, and set-up time frames and procedures.
  • Identify labeling products using a bar code system.
  • Evaluate production tooling to recommend repair or improvement.
  • Assist in the training of extrusion production technician trainees.
  • Must be flexible to work any shift to assist in training and maintaining customers’ expectations.
  • Aid Project Engineer in new product development.
  • Participate in team meetings and team development areas.
  • Interface with internal customers regularly.
  • Any improvements that support the well-being and advancement of MCI, its employees, and the community.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed on short notice.
  • Effectively achieves results that meet business and individual objectives.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and professionalism at all times. 
  • Ability to coordinate and assist with day-to-day production functions. 
  • Basic computer skills and experience, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and additional ERP systems experience a plus.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


This job operates in a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the manufacturing environment and job sites can be loud. The manufacturing work environment is not temperature-controlled controlled and the employee may be exposed to high-heat work conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit, climb or balance, lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee will routinely lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED), or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in an ISO manufacturing environment; and/or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-mentioned essential functions.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with and operating manufacturing machinery (set-up, tear-down, and troubleshooting) is a plus.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to listen attentively, communicate information clearly and effectively, and the ability to work directly and indirectly with other staff members.

$20.50 / hour
