JOB TITLE:  Production Manager - Final Assembly

Jobs Supervised:          Production employees engaged in operations such as welding, fabricating, machining, assembling (electrical and mechanical) material coordination, maintenance, painting, general services, etc.

Basic Function:

Responsible for providing direct supervision to production employees in department(s) including work scheduling and assignment, employee training, ensuring production quality and quantity requirements are met, evaluating staffing needs, administering safety, communication, teambuilding, etc. programs.  Continuous improvement activities that improve productivity and implementation of new products.  Must have the ability to be developed and promotable into higher levels of responsibility.

Essential Duties:

  1. Must possess creativity/adaptability to successfully manage Department to effectively address changing business conditions and to achieve objectives.
  2. Must provide effective management of subordinates to achieve desired results. Attributes necessary to meet this need may include communications, motivation, team building, employee involvement, diplomacy, delegating, etc. skills as well as confidence and enthusiasm.
  3. Must possess thorough and relevant manufacturing knowledge.
  4. Position requires frequent exercise of decision making, problem solving, policy or procedure interpretation and facilitation skills.
  5. Ability to handle responsibilities with effective interpersonal skills and to effectively interface with others inside and outside the Company is required.
  6. Generally, will supervise department(s)/area(s) where work performed is of an unskilled to semi-skilled nature, and/or where similar occupational skills are employed.
  7. Generally, will lead various team sizes ranging from 10 – 15 up to 25 – 40 employees.
  8. Actively encourages and supports concepts of employee involvement, continuous quality improvements, and team work.
  9. Duties include normal personnel related activities such as discipline, attendance, enforcing work rules, wage administration, handling job transfers, etc. Actual decision making authority may be at a higher level.
  10. Keeps Senior Manufacturing Manager informed of all pertinent information and developments.

 

  1. Position requires extensive standing and walking as part of normal job duties.
  2. Position requires ability to work in a normal production plant with welding, machining, and fabrication operations environment.

 

Other Duties:

  1. Liaison with other departments, such as sales and engineering, to resolve manufacturing problems, design connections, etc.
  2. May prepare recommended department budget.
  3. Identify continuous improvement activities to improve overall performance.
  4. Arranges for maintenance/repair of machines/equipment when needed.

Education Required:     Preferred – Engineering Degree.   Will consider someone with strong technical aptitude.

Experience Required:     5 years to less than 8 years.   Prefer someone who has worked in a Lean Manufacturing culture, with proven skills.

Physical Skill and Effort:     Limited manual dexterity required, but on occasion the ability to perform the production functions involved for training or emergency purposes.

Working Conditions and Hazards:     Heavy industrial environment across manufacturing, that presents normal workplace hazards.
