Title: Operations Manager

Salary: Class 08 - $62.55-$75.06 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Operations Manager manages and directs all patient flow during all operational hours (24/7) at KHSC and is responsible for all leadership and management at KHSC from 1500-0700 daily Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The Operation Managers’ responsibilities include providing oversight to bed management and patient flow, leadership and support to all KHSC staff and sites, collaborating with the external community partners, and supporting families and patients. Ensure goals and objectives are developed and executed in alignment with KHSC vision, values and strategic priorities.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:

  1. Manage the operations of the organization by ensuring efficient and effective deployment and use of human, financial and material resources.  Respond to all Codes in the organization to support resources.

 

  1. Manage the logistics to enable the response of day to day operational and patient care needs and initiatives. Determines all patient flow, bed utilization, collaborates with units to lead patient flow in the hospital.  Manages surge protocols, works with admitting to support patient placement and admissions to promote patient access and flow.

 

  1. Manage staff resources by ensuring appropriate balance of skills and capabilities and assessing quality, providing feedback and prioritizing workload to meet unit needs. Provide documentation to Program Managers regarding off hours unit management or challenges and participates in the follow up required by managers.  Follow up can include providing information to support discipline, grievances and arbitrations.

 

  1. Responsible for ensuring  hospital policies related to Be Real, Code of Conduct and Professional Practice are adhered to  between 1500-0700 Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends and holiday.  Accountable for determining immediate interventions to resolve issues, conflicts and safety concerns up to and including when staff are required to be removed from active duty.

 

  1. Authorizes expenditures for staffing needs from 1500-0700 Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends and holidays, including approving ELOAs, vacation, staffing overages and shortages.

 

NOTE - The above duties are representative but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent acceptable to the hospital (e.g. consideration given to working toward a degree combined with additional directly related experience).
  • Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Related post-graduate education (preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years recent varied clinical patient care experience in at KHSC.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the development of professional practice, mentorship, life-long learning and excellence in patient care.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in progressively more responsible leadership roles in a healthcare environment (academic acute care hospital (preferred)
  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of patient registration and scheduling systems, staff scheduling, workload measurement, budgets, labour relations and hospital operations (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and communicate with tact and diplomacy.  
  • Demonstrated judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without supervision and effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with all levels of staff in an organization.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and numerous demands in a professional and competent manner. Fluent with computer systems such as email, word processing, spreadsheet applications, presentations, etc.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
