About the Department

To assist in the operation of the Intramural Sports program through officiating or scorekeeping at Intramural Sports events. The Intramural Referee and Scorekeeper’s primary responsibility is to administer and judge games for intramural sports, ensuring fair play and a safe atmosphere. This includes enforcing the rules, verifying participant eligibility, assisting with equipment setup and safety inspections, promoting good sportsmanship, and providing positive customer service. These positions require a mature individual with good communication, leadership, and conflict management skills.

Compensation: $13.33/hr. 

Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.

Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:– this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).

  • Enforces sport rules and program policies and procedures.
  • Reports all emergencies (Accidents/Injuries, Inclement Weather, etc.).
  • Handles questions, concerns, and complaints of participants.
  • Provides support for special needs or events, as needed.
  • Ensures outstanding customer service.
  • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Performs other work as assigned.
  • Mandatory attendance to required official/scorekeeper meetings.
  • Completion of availability.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other officials and scorekeepers.
  • Ability to accommodate a work schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Basic knowledge and experience in applicable sport(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Officiating Experience
