We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team and help maintain the highest standards of course conditions.
Position Overview
The First Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in managing daily golf course operations, maintenance, and staff supervision. This individual will play a key role in maintaining turfgrass health, implementing agronomic programs, and ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and execution of daily maintenance activities, including mowing, irrigation, chemical/fertilizer applications, and cultural practices.
- Supervise and train seasonal and full-time grounds staff, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
- Operate and maintain turf equipment and irrigation systems.
- Monitor turf health and conditions, making recommendations for improvements.
- Support the Superintendent with budgeting, recordkeeping, and inventory management.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with other departments and support a positive team environment.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
- Two or more years of golf course maintenance experience, with supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- NYS Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems, and chemical/fertilizer applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on golf course needs.
- Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
