The Food Safety Sanitation Scientist I is a key role in our JANZ and Global Food Safety & Sanitation /Hygienic design team. As a member of a cross-functional team (R&D, Corporate Quality, plant Quality Department, External Manufacturers, Suppliers, Trademark Licensing, etc), you ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of the Mondelēz International Quality Compliance and Growth Agenda. The candidate must be versatile, able to work in cross-functional teams, and be capable of working proactively across multiple projects.
How you will contribute
You will:
- Support BU’s operation to Global Quality Policies and capture operational feedback to help keep them up to date
- Ensure Risk Assessment is employed as the key decision-making approach for Product, Process and Package Design Safety
- Risk-based Food Safety and Sanitation verification for Suppliers, internal/external plants and warehouses.
- Support effective management of operational Food Safety and Sanitation challenges at factories including disposition decision making based on risk assessment and advice on risk management interactions with authorities.
- Deploy Food Safety Sanitation programs in area of responsibility (BU/Corporate)
- Provide Food Safety Sanitation inputs into the IIM Projects across the region (IIM- Innovation & Initiative Management).
- Elevate the continuous improvement and productivity in manufacturing processes, guaranteeing the efficiency and effectiveness of Food Safety and Sanitation
- Actively manage regional Food Safety Sanitation programs in the MEU Business Units being the voice of the food safety, hygienic design , sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices and Pest Management programs in compliance with the required company and legislative quality standards to ensure safe products for the consumers
- Execute regional Food Safety/Hygienic Design/Utilities/ Sanitation capability building
- Support the implementation a Food Safety Sanitation culture across the organization
- Channel communication from Mondelez Supply Chain - MSC to maintain up to date and relevant the Food Safety Sanitation standards

- Experience of Engineering /or Sanitation & Food Safety within a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2+ years.

More about this role
What extra ingredients you will bring:
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in the food industry, to include but not limited to plant food safety/sanitation, food safety auditing and compliance, microbiological sampling and management.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience on Food Safety programs, including HACCP, and pre-requisite programs (GMP, pest control, pathogen environmental monitoring, etc.)
- Previous experience in cross functional teams leading, supporting resolution of technical issues, issue management and necessary improvements in compliance to company’s policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate to all functions and levels within the organization.
- Digitally savvy & data driven mindset.
Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science, Process Engineering or other related field.
Travel requirements:
• 20-30% travel
Mondelēz has six manufacturing plants in Australia, adhoc travel to Sites required, including Claremont (TAS) home to Cadbury and Mount Gambier (SA) home to Philadelphia cream cheese.
Work schedule:
Looking for January 2026 start, hybrid working and based in South Melbourne (Head Office) and/or Ringwood Manufacturing Site.
