Scope of Responsibilities:  

Responsible for repairs, preventive maintenance, and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment for the combined fleets of Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority (LRWRA) and Central Arkansas Water (CAW).  Ensures repair and service consistent with generally accepted fleet practices.    Responsible for the distribution of the items in inventory, as well as the security and safekeeping of parts, tools, and supplies.  Follows safety rules and procedures.

Position Duties

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs & verifies repairs on all vehicles and equipment as requested.
  • Performs preventive maintenance for vehicles and equipment.
  • Accountable for parts and supplies used during repairs or preventive maintenance.
  • Picks up and delivers parts as needed.
  • Maintains tidiness and physical appearance of the Fleet shop.
  • Maintains and/or oversees maintenance of fuel island
  • Supplies own hand tools required to complete work duties.
  • Keep records of time and parts used in repairs, complete work orders and technical notes of repairs needed and performed on fleet management software.
  • Responds to emergency service calls and performs roadside repairs.
  • Follows safety practices and guidelines at all times – including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, biological hazards, toxic/flammable compressed gases and confined spaces.
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of vibration; and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Follows established work procedures and practices.
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 75 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is good for the community and LRWRA.

This position has been evaluated as to whether a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to the employee, coworkers, or the public.   If the designation is yes, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA) of 2016 will govern working conditions.  If no, the AMMA will not apply to the position.

This position has been evaluated as to the mandated wearing of a company uniform during working hours.

Education

Required: High school graduate or equivalent.


Preferred: Graduation from an accredited technical school with apprentice program for the automotive and transportation industry.

Experience & Training

Six (06) months of experience in fleet maintenance or equivalent.





Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification within two (2) years of employment in at least one (1) area related to job assignment (Cars & Light Trucks or Medium to Heavy Duty Trucks)


Must obtain this ASE certification before reaching NE-Grade 5 Step 5. 

Three (3) years experience in fleet maintenance. Equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.




Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in at least three (3) areas related to job assignment preferred (Cars & Light Trucks or Medium to Heavy Duty Trucks) or ability to obtain within one (01) year. 


Must obtain these ASE certifications before reaching NE-Grade 7 Step 3.





Minimum of  five (5) years of fleet maintenance experience. Equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.




Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in at least five (5) areas related to job assignment preferred (Cars & Light Trucks or Medium to Heavy Duty Trucks) or ability to obtain within one (01) year. 



Must obtain these ASE certifications before reaching NE-Grade 9 Step 3.




Minimum of  seven (7) years of fleet maintenance experience. Equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.



Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in at least seven (7) areas related to job assignment preferred (Cars & Light Trucks or Medium to Heavy Duty Trucks) or ability to obtain within one (01) year. 



Must obtain these ASE certifications before reaching NE-Grade 11 Step 3.

Progressive Increase of Working Knowledge

Working knowledge of the use of materials, supplies, tools and equipment commonly utilized and required in fleet maintenance.

Working knowledge of the use of materials, supplies, tools and equipment commonly utilized and required in fleet maintenance and ability to help train Fleet Tech I. 









 Working knowledge of  the operation of all vehicles and equipment and ability to help train Fleet Techs I and II on existing and new equipment.

Working knowledge of  the operation of all vehicles and equipment and ability to help train Fleet Techs I, II and III on existing and new equipment.

Ability to Obtain and Maintain

Valid Arkansas driver’s license.

Must have and maintain a State of Arkansas CDL license/with tanker endorsement or


Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within one (01) year of employment.


Must have and maintain a State of Arkansas CDL license/with tanker endorsement or


Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within one (01) year of employment.



Must have and maintain a State of Arkansas CDL license/with tanker endorsement or

Ability to perform the following:

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  

Ability to repair and maintain vehicles and equipment.

Ability to assist in annual inventory of LRWRA and CAW equipment, tools and  Fleet storeroom parts.

Ability to fill in for Lead Fleet Tech when needed.
