Job Description

The Director of Admissions is a full-time administrative leader responsible for managing the daily operations of the Office of Admissions for the BYU School of Medicine. Reporting to and working under the direction of the Associate Dean of Admissions, the Director oversees the admissions process from recruitment through matriculation, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and best practices in medical education admissions. This position plays a key role in facilitating the admissions process by supervising admissions staff and ensuring effective coordination with the Admissions Committee in shaping the composition and quality of incoming students to advance the school’s mission to “provide a spiritually grounded and scientifically rigorous education for physicians who will minister to God’s children throughout the world as healers, teachers, researchers, leaders, and disciples of Jesus Christ.”

What you will be doing in this position

Recruitment and Outreach

  • Coordinate the recruitment, application review, interview, and selection processes, ensuring fair evaluation of all applicants in alignment with established policies.
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean of Admissions to develop and execute annual recruitment strategies and outreach initiatives, including events, fairs, webinars, and campus visits.
  • Develop and maintain recruitment materials, including brochures, printed materials, and related webpages, to ensure they are up-to-date and effectively communicate the school’s offerings and values.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective students, parents, pre-health advisors, and partner organizations.

Policy Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with and provide training for members of the Admissions Committee, interviewers, and current students to ensure an effective admissions process.
  • Contribute to the development of admissions policies.
  • Implement admissions policies, procedures, and selection criteria in alignment with the mission and strategic priorities of the medical school.
  • Collaborate with other SoM and university departments, such as academics, financial aid, and student support to ensure a smooth transition for new students.

Operations and Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Admissions, including workflow management, application processing, and communication with applicants.
  • Supervise and mentor admissions staff, providing leadership, backup, professional development, performance evaluations, and discipline, as necessary.
  • Leads search committees and ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and university policies and procedures in the recruitment and hiring of staff personnel.
  • Manage the admissions budget, resources, and technology systems to support operational efficiency.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Analyze admissions data, prepare reports, and make recommendations to improve recruitment, yield, and key outcomes.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant accreditation standards, privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA), and professional guidelines (e.g., AAMC).
  • Other duties as assigned.

What qualifies you for this role

 Minimum education/experience required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in admissions or a related field
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage and mentor admissions staff

Minimum education/experience preferred:

  • Master's degree in education, business administration, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in medical school admissions
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and technology used in admissions processes, such as AAMC AMCAS, ZAP AMP, WebAdmit, or Slate, etc.
  • Experience in developing and executing recruitment strategies and outreach initiatives
  • Experience in coordinating recruitment events, fairs, webinars, and campus visits
     

 Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications

  • Excellent organizational and workflow management skills
  • Knowledge of admissions policies, procedures, and best practices in medical education
  • Strong communication skills to interact with prospective students, parents, and partner organizations
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA)

Pay Grade: 53

Typical Starting Pay: $71,000 - $92,500
