General Description and Classification Standards:
This role is responsible for performing a variety of routine accounting and financial support tasks to ensure accurate processing and record-keeping of financial transactions. Key duties include processing payments, reconciling accounts, preparing bank deposits, reviewing financial documents for accuracy, and assisting with account adjustments such as returned items and misapplied payments. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to financial policies, and effective communication with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Supervision Received:
Works under general supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. May set work sequence or priorities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide customer service to citizens and internal employees by answering questions and providing information regarding complaints and inquiries. 
• Process payments and verify accounts receivable records. 
• Type, file, and post general ledger entries. 
• Verify account information and process adjustments, including refunds, per internal procedures. 
• Provide administrative support in the collections process. 
• Prepare and review memorandums, correspondence, generate reports, public notices, permits, and various documents. 
• Evaluates information and makes informed decisions to ensure operational effectiveness. 
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. 
• Attend regular departmental meetings. 
• Perform other related duties assigned to support departmental operations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Skilled in using a personal computer and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer software. 
• Basic knowledge of accounting principles.

• Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. 
• Ability to recognize and escalate inconsistencies to senior staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience – Education and Experience – High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Minimum 2 years of accounting related experience.

Licensures and Certifications - None required.

Preferred Requirements – Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in the accounting area and 1 year of accounting experience.

Work Environment:
Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions are associated with the job.

Lifting Requirements: 
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Work Schedule:
This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
