Position Summary:
The 2nd Shift Manager will manage the 2nd Shift Shipping Manager as well as the Pipe & Fabrication Manager, ensuring daily shipping and distribution operations run efficiently and customer orders are fulfilled accurately. The Manager must be analytical, well-organized, and excel in communication. They must be comfortable with paperwork and information systems, as well as have a strong knowledge of shipping and receiving best practices. They must have a clear leadership style that promotes accountability and teamwork. The Manager provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers and demonstrates a strict level of confidentiality with all team members while serving as an ambassador of our culture.
Essential Functions:
- Work 2nd shift hours, staying until all duties are complete.
- Manage the 2nd Shift Shipping Manager and provide oversight to the Pipe & Fabrication Manager, ensuring alignment, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Use software to track, check, prioritize, and route customer orders.
- Sell and write orders.
- Manage all important documents such as advanced shipping notices, packing slips, bills of lading, etc.
- Direct the flow of orders from preparation to shipment.
- Inspect labels, barcodes, and other features of complete orders.
- Supervise and lead subordinate team members.
- Manage the shipping department budget.
- Collaborate with warehouse, drivers, dispatch, and other managers to optimize processes.
- Train and develop new team members.
- Accurately pick, pack, and load customer orders onto delivery vehicles.
- Demonstrate company core values and best practices.
- Exemplify dedication to customer satisfaction with superior experience.
- Assign work orders to shipping staff and ensure paperwork is complete and accurate.
- Investigate items not found by picking staff and make appropriate adjustments and reports.
- Record daily attendance and ensure team members are compliant with proper PPE.
- Sort, count, package, label, insure, unpack, and/or log inventory which is shipped.
- Prepare routine reports and file shipping records.
- Operate dolly, pallet jack, crane, and/or forklift in loading and unloading
- supplies and equipment; may operate a shrink wrap machine.
- Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and continuous quality improvement objectives.
- Adhere to all Company safety rules, standards, and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven track record of managing a team in a warehouse environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must possess strong mathematical aptitude.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage time effectively.
- Must be able to communicate in English regarding the essential functions of the position.
Required Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of prior warehouse experience with a focus on distribution.
- Four years of prior management experience with a focus on distribution, including direct management of teams and oversight of multiple departments (e.g., Shipping, Pipe, and Fabrication).
- Prior crane and cherry picker operations preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull 50 lbs.
- Requires visual, hearing, and speech acuity.
- Requires the ability to stand and walk long distances for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and elements, noise, and fumes.
