Pharmacy Technician
- Salary Range: $21.50 - $25.80 per hour, based on relevant years of experience
- Location: Larimer county, Colorado
- Status: Full time, 40 hours per week
- Hours: 8 hours 5 days a week or 10 hours 4 days a week, including weekends
Employees working at locations operating 24/7 earn a differential. Shift differentials are also available for evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Role Overview:
This is an exciting position that will help with both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services at our new acute substance use withdrawal/mental health facility serving Larimer County. The main inpatient duties include overall management of the Pyxis machines, (accurately loading meds with medication from the pharmacy, managing expirations of meds, and maintaining efficient inventory levels), medication waste management, providing pharmaceutical information to other healthcare professionals, working closely with nursing staff, completing medication reconciliations with clients being admitted to the unit, supporting pharmacist in monitoring patients for completing comprehensive medication reviews.
Essential Duties:
- Fill prescriptions in Outpatient Pharmacy including daily dose packaging for SummitStone programs, discharge meds and outpatient clients.
- Computer processing prescriptions through our WAM outpatient pharmacy software from our acute mental health facility, our clinics and outside providers.
- Accurately loads medications into Pyxis machines from central pharmacy stock 2 times daily. Also, travels to Garcia House to load Pyxis machine up to 3 times a week.
- Works closely with nursing staff/mental health providers in ensuring medication is readily available to patients.
- Assures that inventory levels are maintained at their most efficient and effective levels in Pyxis machine and in central pharmacy. Orders medications from wholesaler and puts order away.
- Repackages medication in unit dose packaging for Pyxis use.
- Completed medication reconciliations for all admitted clients.
- Helps with medication waste management, from both med rooms and pharmacy.
- Assesses quality of services delivered and coordinates client care services with medical and clinical staff, and other programs/departments as needed.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration by maintaining records of controlled substances, removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory, supervising the work results of support personnel, maintaining current registration, studying existing and new legislation, anticipating legislation, and advising management on needed actions. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
Required:
- High school diploma or completion of G.E.D. required
- Experience in mental health or medical client care
- Ability to get Certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 18 months of hire
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred
- Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record required
- CPR and First Aid certifications required
Highly Desired:
- More than two (2) years of experience in a pharmacy role preferred
- Experience in working within behavioral health and/or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) settings preferred
- Bilingual/bi-cultural preferred
