About the Department
The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the recorder of deeds and probate judge, issues marriage licenses and is the official court administrator for all civil and criminal court cases. In this latter capacity, the Clerk creates and maintains all court files and records, prepares court orders and jury lists, contacts jurors and issues summons and court processes.
Position Duties
Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court, this position is responsible for leading the planning, coordination and implementation of major and significant projects, programs and services within the Judicial Services divisions of the Clerk’s office; this position is responsible for the strict adherence of the policies and procedures regarding the processing, retention and confidentiality (including sealing) of expungements; ensures compliance with laws and regulations. The Judicial Services Program Manager serves as a liaison to the Circuit Court, judges, Supreme Court of Virginia, State Police of Virginia and various other state and local agencies.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field; four (4) years of directly related work experience either in private sector or in a court setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Virginia Master Deputy Clerk and Virginia Paralegal Certification are preferred. Continuing education as a Master Deputy Clerk (once certified) is required.
