The Position:
The Phlebotomist collects and labels blood and other required specimens requiring testing the clinic and clinical laboratory. The Phlebotomist may also assist with order entry of tests, assist Medical Assistants in collection, and ensure specimens are timely routed to the appropriate areas of testing. This role will primarily be in our Mt. Pleasant, SC office, but will require travel to our Summerville and West Ashley offices as needed.
As a Phlebotomist, a typical day might look like:
• Consults with physicians and patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.
• Obtains quality blood or other required specimens using a variety of pheloboty methods.
• Ensure patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
• Follows laboratory procedures for collecting specimens in the appropriate container.
• Update charts and track paperwork to completion.
• Cleaning and prepare examination rooms, equipment, and tools per protocol.
• Provides education to patients for proper collection techniques.
• Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock and maintain phlebotomy inventory while maintaining cleanliness and organization and disposes of contaminated items according to protocol.
• Perform departmental- related clerical duties such: checking inventory, stock supplies, track referral, and answer phones as needed.
• Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School degree or equivalent.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician highly preferred.
• Experience in a clinical setting.
• Experience and ability to navigate an EMR.
• Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills.
• Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
