Ocado Technology (OT) has undergone significant change in recent years - in terms of the scope of our technology, the size and scale of our international clients, and the number and geographic breadth of our people and development centres. This has presented us with new opportunities, but also new complexities, which increase our need for strategic planning, organisation and communication between the senior team.

About the role

The Strategy Team plays a vital role in guiding the future of our technology division. We must evaluate our technologies, operational methodologies, organisational structure, geographic distribution, and internal support activities. This requires a thorough analysis of their relative merits, risks, and opportunities, which must be effectively communicated. Success in this role demands clarity of thought, strong problem-solving skills, and a data-driven analytical approach.

Our Senior Strategy Manager will be someone who is happy in an environment that is changeable and who is excited by a role that requires an ability to flex and adapt to that change.

Accountabilities 

Strategic Leadership & Problem Solving

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, defining and articulating long-term strategic goals and vision for Ocado Technology and its major products and business units.
  • Provide well-grounded strategic advice that challenges existing approaches and identifies new opportunities, drawing on deep knowledge of Ocado Technology, Ocado Group, and OSP.
  • Scope and prioritise multiple strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with long-term value delivery.
  • Anticipate risks, advising on proactive mitigation or escalation as required.
  • Champion best practices, tools, and forums to strengthen decision-making and organisational effectiveness.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise long-term strategic opportunities, applying curiosity and insight to challenge existing approaches.

Technology Governance & Ways of Working

  • Oversee and continuously improve governance processes, ensuring senior leadership meetings are high-impact, well-structured, and outcome-focused.
  • Lead on the design and delivery of strategic planning cycles,board papers, advisory boards, leadership conferences, and business away days.
  • Partner with Finance, HR, and other support functions to optimise ways of working and organisational processes.
  • Deliver clear, data-driven insight to support senior decision-making.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and inspire the Strategy Team, building capability and creating a pipeline of future leaders.
  • Foster an innovative, insight-led culture where creativity, collaboration, and curiosity are celebrated.
  • Maintain an appropriate balance between delegation and oversight, ensuring accountability for results while empowering team members.
  • Role model Ocado Technology’s principles, creating a healthy, collaborative working environment.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a confident, engaging communicator across senior and cross-functional audiences, flexing communication style to suit the situation.
  • Lead high-stakes meetings and workshops, managing conflicting perspectives to deliver aligned outcomes.
  • Consistently tell a compelling story through structured, high-quality presentations, influencing decision-makers at all levels.
  • Establish and maintain processes for effective, transparent communication with stakeholders across the organisation and beyond.

About you

  • Proven ability to influence and advisor on long-term strategy and vision.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including understanding of high-level financial statements.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills including Excel or Google Sheets based analysis
  • Broad domain knowledge of Ocado Group, Ocado Technology, and the competitive landscape.
  • Track record of leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives from conception to implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and large audiences.
  • Experience balancing multiple priorities, making trade-offs, and delivering practical solutions.
  • Skilled facilitator of workshops and governance processes, driving alignment in challenging environments.
