Marine Construction Inspector

Location: 22211 US Highway 19 North, Clearwater, FL  33756 

If you’ve spent time working on the water and have hands-on experience with marine construction, specifically with docks and shoreline infrastructure, consider joining Pinellas County Public Works’ team as a Marine Construction Inspector 1.

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support and expertise to the Pinellas County Department of Public Works, Division of Environmental Management. The selected candidate is responsible for conducting reviews of boat dock applications, as well as inspecting major public and private marine construction projects for consistency with the Pinellas County Water and Navigation Regulations. You’ll bring your knowledge to the front lines of coastal development, ensuring projects are built safely, responsibly, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

What Would You Do?

  • Review dock permit applications and inspects issued dock permits for consistency with the Water and Navigation Regulations.
  • Review architectural plans and specifications for code compliance, construction feasibility, and utility.
  • Perform field reviews of site conditions for proposed projects.
  • Interact with engineers, marine contractors, consultants and applicants.
  • Interact with Municipal, State and Federal officials and with other County work groups.
  • Respond to citizen complaints regarding violations of the Water and Navigation Regulations.
  • Resolve enforcement cases for violations of the Water and Navigation Regulations.
  • Respond to all citizen inquiries in a professional and customer service driven manner.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

     

What Do You Need To Have?

  • 3 years of experience in marine construction as a project manager or engineering level involving permit issuance and inspection of projects.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

     

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

     

 Highly Desirable

  • Experience in marine construction at a project management or engineering level.
  • Ability to work at an advanced, independent level.
  • Experience with ESRI GIS.
