JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine shop equipment to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to safety and quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate manual machines (e.g., lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses) to fabricate metal and non-metal parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders to determine machining operations.
- Measure, examine, and test completed parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools.
- Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and tolerances.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and supervisors to resolve production and quality issues.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and time spent on each job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with a variety of metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass).
- Familiarity with CNC machining is a plus, but not required.
- Experience in a job shop or custom manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED; technical school or apprenticeship training is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment.
- Strong knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Great communication skills and ability to prioritize workload.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Industrial machine shop environment with exposure to noise, oil, and metal shavings.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots is required.
