Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and supporting our organization's network and firewall infrastructure. The IT Network Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure stability, security, and optimal performance of our network systems. This role requires a strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, and technologies, as well as the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
Essential Functions:
Network Design and Implementation:
- Design, plan, and implement scalable and reliable network architectures to meet the organization's requirements.
- Deploy and configure network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other devices.
- Conduct network capacity planning and recommend improvements to support future growth.
- Meraki, Cisco and Fortinet experience preferred
Network Security:
- Implement and maintain network security measures to protect the organization's data and infrastructure.
- Regulate and enhance our security posture through firewall updates
- Monitor network traffic for security breaches and promptly respond to security incidents.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging security threats.
Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine network maintenance tasks, including updates, patches, and backups.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal performance.
- Diagnose and provide timely resolution to user-reported network problems.
End User Support:
- Monitor and maintain the employee Help Desk for all IT issues
- Coordinate the assigning and resolution of all Help Desk tickets.
- Create and maintain Help Desk reporting for management
- Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders
- Diagnose and resolve stakeholders’ issues in a timely manner
- Escalate issues promptly as required to Sr Engineers.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
- Monitor network performance and analyze key metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Optimize network configurations for maximum efficiency and reliability.
- Implement performance tuning measures to enhance overall network performance.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for firewalls
- Create and update network diagrams to aid in troubleshooting and future planning.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, security professionals, and software developers.
- Work closely with Advanced level support vendors
- Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and best practices.
- Hands-on experience with network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Strong understanding of network security principles and practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, etc.) are a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience
Work Environment:
The IT Network Engineer will primarily work in a climate-controlled office environment, providing both on-site and remote support with frequent customer interactions. Typical working hours (7.5 per day) will be between 8am and 6pm. Occasional evening or weekend work might be required for system maintenance or urgent support needs. Incumbent must be able to sit at a desk for more than 4 hours at a time and be able to move throughout all areas of the organization.
