About the Role:
The Bilingual Health Educator in the PRN capacity for the AWP Northeast PA-Berwick program plays a critical role in promoting health and wellness among agricultural workers and their families. This position focuses on delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate health education, ensuring that vital health information is accessible to a diverse population. The educator will collaborate with community organizations and healthcare providers to develop and implement effective outreach strategies tailored to the unique needs of the agricultural worker community. By empowering individuals with knowledge and resources, the role aims to improve health outcomes and reduce barriers to care. Ultimately, this position contributes to fostering a healthier community through education, advocacy, and support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in health education, public health, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations, particularly within agricultural or underserved communities.
- Basic knowledge of health education principles and community outreach strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a flexible, PRN (as-needed) capacity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Community Health Worker (CHW) or Health Educator.
- Experience specifically in agricultural worker health programs or rural health initiatives.
- Familiarity with local healthcare systems and resources available to agricultural workers in Northwest Pennsylvania.
- Proficiency in additional languages spoken by the community served.
- Strong organizational skills and experience with data collection and reporting tools.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct health education sessions and workshops in both English and Spanish to agricultural workers and their families.
- Develop culturally relevant educational materials and resources that address common health concerns within the community.
- Collaborate with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and program staff to coordinate outreach efforts and health screenings.
- Provide one-on-one health counseling and referrals to appropriate healthcare services as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of educational activities, participant engagement, and outcomes to support program evaluation and reporting.
Skills:
The bilingual skills in English and Spanish are essential for effective communication and building trust within the agricultural worker community, enabling the educator to deliver health information clearly and empathetically.
