Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Colorado license/teaching certification in Special Education (alternate licensure accepted).
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with students with special needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Requirements

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in a resource setting and in the general education classroom.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure success.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  • Member of a multi-disciplinary professional team.
  • Provide direct instruction and consultation to students with an IEP.
  • Provide students with experiences that will give them opportunities to develop mature, responsible behaviors necessary for future success.
  • Provide nondiscriminatory diagnostic assessment of reading, writing, and math.
  • Design, implement, and support programming needed to maximize functional educational outcomes in the reading, writing, and math.
  • Provide consultation to regular education, special education, support staff and parents, and other agencies regarding programming for students with learning needs through appropriate service delivery models.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about the ways in which learning takes place, including the levels of intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of their students.
  • Uses formal and informal methods to assess student learning, provide feedback, and to use results to inform planning and instruction.
  • Integrates and utilizes appropriate available technology to engage students in authentic learning experiences.
  • Establishes and communicates high expectations and use processes to support the development of critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish and maintain confidential records of screenings, evaluations, and progress towards goals.
  • Prepare and submit reports to direct supervisor.
  • Attend conferences and workshops regarding learning disabilities and intervention techniques.
  • Participate in staff development and professional development activities and attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Deliver interventions to all levels in identified area(s) of need with direct, explicit instruction.
  • Use a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, methods, and materials for specific learning problems/and or social, emotional or behavioral problems.
  • Use technology in communication with students, peers, parents, and administration.
  • Assist in modifying materials and training general education teachers on curriculum modification.
  • Facilitate inclusion of all students.
  • Design motivational strategies for at-risk learners.
  • Develop and coordinate behavior management plans.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Participate on the multi-disciplinary team to identify students K-8 grade with learning disabilities.
  • Inform students with disabilities and families of outside agencies, specialists, and other resources when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with students of all ages.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Train and oversee paraprofessionals.
  • Advocate for students' needs.
  • Ensure student rights under IDEA.
  • Initiate contact with parents and serve as a liaison.
  • Keep current on Federal and State special education laws, procedures, and district policies and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relation skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and common software applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point, as well as data management systems.
