Summary: 

We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator for an onsite position in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, to support the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of enterprise systems and networks. This role requires a strong background in Unix or Windows system administration, TCP/IP networking, and information security practices. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for managing servers, supporting end-user devices, and ensuring system availability, reliability, and performance across the enterprise.

Job Functions: 

• Administer, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Unix servers, ensuring secure and reliable operation.
• Install, upgrade, and patch operating systems, server applications, and system software.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system, hardware, and application issues to minimize downtime and maintain performance.
• Manage user accounts, authorization profiles, and security configurations in accordance with organizational policies.
• Provide technical support for end-user devices including laptops, desktops, and printers.
• Configure and test hardware devices, operating systems, and networking software to support mission requirements.
• Monitor system performance, server event logs, and system configurations to identify and address issues proactively.
• Design, implement, and monitor backup and recovery procedures for servers and enterprise data.
• Conduct system testing for operating systems, networking software, and computer hardware to ensure compatibility and reliability.
• Develop and maintain system administration documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and configuration baselines.
• Support system security and compliance initiatives, including patch management and vulnerability remediation.

Job Qualifications: 

• Requires IAT Level 2 Certification  
• Minimum of 5 years of experiences within the last 8 years
• Proficiency in Windows and/or Unix/Linux system administration.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, system configuration, and event log monitoring.
• Experience with server installation, upgrades, and patch management.
• Familiarity with information security practices and access/authorization management.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, including disaster recovery planning.
• Ability to configure, test, and troubleshoot computer hardware and networked peripherals.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to support both technical staff and end users.

Working Conditions: 

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  Use of standard office equipment.
