We are currently seeking a Physical Security Technician who wants to develop skills and provide hands-on experience working with access control, surveillance, and alarm systems ensuring the protection and security of sensitive facilities, assets, and information by controlling access to restricted areas and enforcing the University's security protocols.

Duties:

  • Assists senior specialists with the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of access control, surveillance, and alarm systems.
  • Participates in inspections and maintenance activities to detect and resolve issues.
  • Ensures security policies and procedures are followed in handling and storage of proprietary materials, documents, and equipment.
  • Develops skills in reading technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints relevant to security systems.
  • Maintains accurate records of equipment, labor, and maintenance schedules in collaboration with resource management.
  • Engages in continuous learning through training sessions, certifications, and industry-related courses.
  • Assists in inventory management to understand the logistics of equipment needs and availability.
  • Completes required certifications and training modules.
  • Receives and evaluates work orders and requests.
  • Responds to phone, email, voice mail, verbal and written work orders.
  • Organizes and manages parts stock and tools.
  • Assists with scheduled maintenance, cleaning and minor adjustments to electronic devices, including but not limited to access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detections devices.
  • Responds to emergencies and closures including adverse weather to secure buildings, furnishings and fixtures to prevent damage or operational problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: High school diploma or GED

Skills:

  • Eager to learn new technologies and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of general electronics.
  • Ability to understand and apply technical concepts.
  • Ability to travel and operator a university vehicle.
  • Knowledge of how to operate a computer, software, tools, etc.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of technical diagrams is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Desire to develop problem-solving skills and build independence.
  • Maintain a high level of reliability and be proactive in seeking opportunities to learn and contribute.
  • Flexible schedule availability for events, emergencies responses, and department needs.

Certifications or Licenses:

  • A valid state issued driver's license is required.

     

Working Conditions:

  • Physical:  
    • Must be able to engage in repetitive motion and communicate effectively.
    • Ability to walk, stand, bed, lift up to 50 lbs, and drive a vehicle.
    • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
  • Environmental:
    • Standard office and field environment, including exposure to various work sites.
    • Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions; chemicals & solvents; mechanical, electrical and/or other hazards.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Although no experience is required, familiarity with Genetec physical security software would be a plus.
