Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution is required
  • MI CNA, Certified Nursing Assistant, and BLS (offered at Hillsdale Hospital) (may consider someone not yet CNA certified if they have relevant experience; must obtain certification within 4 months of hire)
  • Certified Activities Coordinator (at time of hire or must obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Excellent computer and communication skills
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and conduct semi-active programs
  • Enthusiasm to work with physically disabled and elderly individuals
  • Ability to deal with patients, staff and guests with tact and professionalism
  • Ability to identify unfavorable symptoms such as fatigue and irritability

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops recreation and leisure programs to meet the needs of patients in the long-term skilled nursing unit
  • Develops and maintains contact with community agencies and organizations
  • Provides patients, hospital staff and families with resources related to leisure activities
  • Assesses and documents patients’ abilities and needs and records patient participation
  • Prepares monthly quality of care/service reports
  • Compiles a monthly social program calendar for each resident
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteers
  • Attends patient evaluation conferences and other meetings as necessary
  • Assures that all activities conform to federal, state and local accreditation and licensing agencies or organizations
  • Monitors activity budget, equipment, and supplies
  • Personally assists residents with ADL's if needed
  • Works on the floor as a CENA when necessary
