ABOUT THE ROLE

The purchasing team members are responsible for sourcing and securing needed production materials that meet the required quality standards, at the lowest cost, and delivered in a timely manner to support the production schedule. At the plant level, the assistant purchasing manager supports the purchasing manager. He/she manages designated vendor accounts and materials. He/she serves as the supervisor for the material handling team (receivers). The assistant purchasing manager interacts and consistently communicates with all departments within the facility (Production, Sales, Service, Costing, and Engineering).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

· Closely monitors all assigned materials

o Prepares appropriate purchase orders

o Monitors the delivery status of purchase orders

o Prevents shortages by knowing where on hand quantities stand versus where Production is on the schedule

o Receives purchase orders (electronically) and prepares backorders as necessary

· Builds strong relationships with vendors/suppliers

· Leads the material handling team focusing on safety and proper material handling (both physically and administratively)

· Actively seeks cost effective alternative materials and/or usage methods

· Assists the purchasing manager in executing physical inventories

· Committed to the success of the facility

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field preferred; supply chain management experience in a construction/manufacturing environment is a plus

· Demonstrated success in managing/leading people and teams

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual Spanish is a plus

· Self-starter, action taker, calm under pressure

· Unquestionable integrity and ethics

· Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
