Cardiac Cath Lab/Imaging Procedural Coord RN - Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will play a pivotal role in the coordination of procedural rooms, procedural staff, clinic, providers, and schedulers for the Cath Lab, pain management, and interventional radiology service lines.

This interventional trained nurse must be able to maintain calm while being effective and accurate in critical situations, foster an environment of collaboration and respect, and maintain a positive approach to working in a fast-paced environment.

This individual must be highly organized and have exceptional communication skills.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

License required:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of NV.

Certifications:

  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • CCRN or Cardiac-Vascular Nursing (RN-BC) preferred.
  • RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification required to perform scrub duties (present upon hire or obtain within 18

           months of hire date).

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a cardiac catheterization lab setting (preferred) or Interventional  

          Radiology setting.

 

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordination and collaboration (primary)

  • Liaison between the clinic, clinic providers, and radiology team to ensure safe, timely care is provided.
  • Reviews of all orders and collaboration with insurance authorization team to verify each order has been completed.
  • Reviews of procedural providers schedule to coordinate patient schedule with provider skillset.
  • Reviews staffing availability for procedure dates and follows up accordingly.
  • Works with procedural scheduler; correct date and time.
  • Works with nursing staff to make all pre-procedure patient calls.
  • All needed supplies are on hand prior to procedure date.
  • Verifies vendor availability, as needed.
  • Works with RN/tech to make all post procedure patient calls.
  • Verifies with appropriate staff that billing and supply entry has been completed.
  • Coordination and scheduling of nursing staff for other non-procedural exams such as echo bubble studies, echo contrast studies, and NM chemical stress test coverage.

Patient Care (secondary, as needed)

  • Provide nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures, including angioplasty, stent placement, and other interventional procedures.
  • Ability to quickly read and interpret the patient’s electrocardiogram (ECG).
  • Administer medications and provide moderate sedation as directed by the physician and monitor patients' responses to treatment.
  • Monitor the patients’ vital signs and sedation level throughout the procedure.
  • Focused assessment before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization.
  • Educate patients and their families about the procedure, including pre-procedure preparations and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including procedure documentation and patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment in the Cath Lab, ensuring availability and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Know how to initiate and manage an Intra-Aortic Balloon pump in case of an emergency.
  • Support and assist the scrub, physician, and/or monitor as needed, troubleshooting equipment issues and operating point-of-care (POC) testing as required.
  • Maintains a sterile field while circulating and assisting the physician and tech during the procedure.
  • Confidently switch between the circulating and monitoring role as needed.

Treatment Plan

  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care In collaboration with each patient,
  • Develops patient/family teaching and discharge plan, ensuring patient/family is adequately informed of post­ procedure Instructions.
  • Follows procedures/preferences for interventions.
  • Communicates with and keeps family informed.

Judgment

  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to initiate appropriate nursing actions, based on assessment findings, for the care of the patient.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
  • Demonstrates safe administration and knowledge of medications including action, dose, and side effects.
  • Observes 5 R's for administering medications: right patient, right drug, right dose, right method, and right time.
  • Demonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration.
  • Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Identifies priorities and executes nursing care accordingly.
  • Provides emotional support and comfort measures.
  • Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout the interventional procedure.
  • Ensures safe transfer/transport of patient at all times.

Documentation

  • Maintains up-to-date accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality care.
  • Nursing assessment is complete and accurate.
  • Medication administration record must reflect full signature and title of nurse administering medication, time given, reason for omission, and site for injection (if applicable).
  • Demonstrates proper documentation of narcotics; ensures all wastage is witnessed.
  • Accurately and promptly documents unusual occurrences noted and actions taken.
