The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day Sterile Processing operations and team while ensuring excellent patient service and delivery of care.
This is a full-time position working 4 10-hour or 5 8-hour shifts a week out of Two Twelve Surgery Center in Chaska.
Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the Sterile Processing Technicians.
- Staffs the Sterile Processing department to accommodate the surgical schedule, and to maintain appropriate staff coverage.
- Facilitates department meetings.
- Responsible for orientation and training of qualified staff to carry out the duties of their job description, maintaining the Revo ASC quality and performance standards.
- Partner with executive director to ensure staff members receive recognition, development, coaching, and when appropriate, counseling, including employee rounding and delivering performance reviews.
- Reports occurrences through the center’s established occurrence reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
- Actively participates in Quality projects, identifying issues, contributing ideas for improvement, and assisting in collection of data for Quality purposes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate, assemble, wrap, and sterilize equipment, supplies, and instruments.
- Demonstrates knowledge of equipment function sufficient to be able to determine operational adequacy and to distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction.
- Demonstrates knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within the safety parameters.
- Independently follows all cleaning checklists thoroughly and appropriately.
- Floats readily between all areas of decontamination and sterile processing, providing help as needed.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions.
- Assists in the procurement and maintenance of department inventory.
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards, including but not limited to AAMI and ANSI standards.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the surgical experience.
- Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent required
- Current Sterile Processing certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire
- Instrument processing/Sterile processing experience required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Two years related experience required; ASC experience preferred
- Supervisor experience preferred

Ability to:

- Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance.
- Work in the surgery center during business hours.
- Travel independently throughout the surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and moving of a maximum of 50 pounds may be required.
- Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines.
- Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner.
- Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations.
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Understand and execute a variety of instructions.
- Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Travel to other work locations, if required.
