GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Wound Care Specialist is responsible for all phases of the Wound Care Nursing Program.
The Wound Care Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served on his/her unit – adolescent through geriatric. The Wound Care Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse Nursing Program required.
Certified Wound Care Specialist required or actively pursing certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience in a geriatric setting preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
CPR Certification preferred.
Must maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Allied Services.
Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice required.
Knowledge of various wound care management programs required.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff, management and residents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, stooping and lifting (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.
Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and blood/body substances.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional works in a well-lit office environment; majority of work is performed in resident living areas.

- 80% Determines appropriate preventative measures and nursing care for individual residents based on the nursing process and incorporates this into the plan of care. (E)
- 10% Monitors, through the quality improvement process, the Wound Care Nursing Program including data entry and makes recommendations as needed.. (E)
- 5% Participates in wound care staffings and wound care management teams. (E)
- 3% Serves as nursing liaison with physicians for the Wound Care Nursing Program. (E)
- 2% Attend education seminars and professional meetings. (E)
