The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is seeking a proven Environmental Leader to grow our Environmental Practice in the Western U.S. This high-impact role reports directly to the Environmental Solutions Group Portfolio Leader and is responsible for building a leading practice serving both private and government clients.


The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of the west coast market, strong client engagement skills, and the ability to connect complex service offerings to regulatory drivers and client needs. This leader will foster a science-driven, business-oriented culture and attract talent beyond traditional engineering and design disciplines.


Our clients face challenges including air, land, and water quality, ecosystem impacts, climate variability, and evolving regulations. This role will drive innovative solutions in resilience, sustainability, and ecosystem health, while scaling Environmental Solutions nationally.

 
Key Responsibilities: The role is a seller-doer (60%-40%) and has responsibility to drive strategy and developing/ implementing Solution growth campaigns and managing awarded work, including the following. These responsabilities include developing go-to-market strategies, collaborating across sectors, and building a pipeline of opportunities with government and industrial clients. A Community of Practice mindset is essential to support solution scalability and cross-functional integration.

 

Please note: This role will be hybrid: 2 days per week remote, 3 days per week in-office.

The Team

We are looking for a West Region Environmental Leader to join our Environmental team. We are a multidisciplinary team of scientists, specialists, and engineers working together to deliver top environmental solutions to our clients.  We provide environmental solutions across a diverse and growing mix of infrastructure sectors including power providers, fuels and natural resources, technology, commercial and industrial, and governments and communities. 

 

As a full-service environmental consulting practice, services include impact assessment and planning, regulatory compliance, air quality permitting, environmental justice, environmental remediation assessment, natural resources studies, water quality impact assessment, environmental site due diligence, acoustics and environmental noise assessment, climate solutions, and pollution prevention planning.

Key Responsibilities

Driving Sustained Growth

  • Strategic Leadership: Builds Environmental Solution opportunities in the western U.S.,by identifying market needs, evaluating growth potential, and nurturing alliances.
  • Initiative Development: Collaborates with the Environmental Solutions Portfolio Leader and other stakeholders to launch and scale growth initiatives.
  • Sales Enablement: Equips sales teams with marketing tools and resources to engage clients effectively.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Assesses solution offerings against market and operational risks to ensure alignment with evolving client needs.

Sales Funnel & Go-to-Market Execution

  • Pipeline Management: Oversees the Environmental sales funnel and ensures strategic focus across sectors.
  • Profitability Tracking: Monitors campaign performance and drives efficiency improvements for better margins and competitiveness.
  • Marketing Coordination: Develops and aligns tactical go-to-market plans, supporting consistency and execution across solution areas.

Nurturing Growth & Delivery Excellence

  • Culture & Capability Building: Fosters a growth-oriented culture, aligns staffing with strategic needs, and mentors emerging leaders.
  • Project Execution: Guides Project Managers to deliver environmental projects on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.
  • Collaboration: Works across Solutions and Operations teams to expand delivery capacity and diversify capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading technical and project teams in the environmental and ecological space, successfully executing initiatives across western region.
  • Experience serving in client-facing roles.
  • Experience in scaling environmental services.
  • 15+ years of environmental and ecological planning and consulting experience in multiple sectors, including government, industry, and commercial.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and their permitting functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
  • Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
