Exciting Career Opportunity: Full-Time Waking Night Residential Support Workers – Our Children’s Home in Barnet.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for full-time Waking Night Residential Support Workers to join our dedicated team at our children’s home in Barnet. We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and experienced professionals to support young people aged 7 to 17 who have experienced significant emotional, psychological, and behavioural challenges rooted in early attachment trauma.
Our children’s home provides a specialist nurturing residential environment designed to offer targeted care and support for young people. The focus is on creating a safe, stable, living space where healing and growth can begin through consistent, relationship-based care.
We work closely with families and foster carers to support each young person’s journey toward returning to a family setting whether reunified with their birth family or placed with a carefully matched foster carer.
As a Waking Night Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, wellbeing, and emotional stability of the young people during night-time hours. You will work collaboratively with sleep-in staff to ensure continuity of care, respond to any incidents or needs that arise, maintain detailed records, and carry out light domestic duties including cleaning to uphold a homely and hygienic environment.
You will contribute to the development of a nurturing home grounded in holistic, group-based principles. Our approach integrates elements of trauma informed practice with evidence-based, attachment-informed, and mentalisation-focused strategies. This framework supports the building of trusting relationships, helping young people develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience.
Your responsibilities will include:
•Providing consistent, empathetic night-time support to young people with complex needs
•Supporting individual assessment and support plans through person-centred care
•Assisting young people to access therapy, medical appointments, and community activities
•Planning and facilitating social and recreational programmes that promote positive engagement
•Working flexibly across weekends and nights, often in a lone-working capacity, in line with service requirements
We are committed to fostering resilience in children, young people, and families across Barnet as part of our ambitious Family Friendly Barnet vision. This initiative aims to create stronger, more supportive communities where every child can thrive. We are looking for individuals who share this commitment those who are passionate about making a lasting difference, enjoy working collaboratively with external agencies, and are creative in finding ways to enhance outcomes for vulnerable young people.
The ideal candidate will:
•Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
•Have proven experience supporting children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
•Demonstrate resilience when managing challenging behaviours
•Possess strong communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships
•Be empathetic, patient, and committed to nurturing the emotional and developmental needs of young people
•Be flexible, reliable, and willing to work unsociable hours, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking, values-driven team dedicated to transforming lives. If you are passionate about nurturing vulnerable young people, believe in the power of relationships to heal, and want to contribute to a truly supportive environment, we would love to hear from you.
