Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Principal Advisor, Fixed Assets, you will be responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership in the governance, performance, and lifecycle management of fixed asset infrastructure across Pinto Valley mining operations. This role will ensure the site fixed assets meet operational, safety, environmental, and compliance standards while maximizing reliability, availability, and efficiency through effective engineering, risk management, and continuous improvement practices. Additionally, this role will provide leadership, subject matter expertise and mentorship that aligns with Capstone Copper’s company values while simultaneously supporting the Fixed Plant Maintenance and Reliability functional areas.

- Safety & Values Leadership: Exemplify Capstone Copper’s values and ensure all employees and contractors work in compliance with MSHA, site policies, and safety/environmental standards. Promote a safety-first culture through proactive risk management.
- Asset Governance & Compliance: Develop and implement standards and frameworks for fixed asset governance, ensuring compliance with internal policies, statutory requirements, and industry codes. Serve as liaison with regulators, auditors, and industry bodies.
- Reliability & Performance: Monitor and analyze asset performance indicators (MTBF, MTTR, availability, utilization) to identify improvement opportunities. Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations, and drive corrective action to improve reliability.
- Engineering Expertise: Provide SME support in mechanical engineering design, modifications, and upgrades to fixed and mobile plant infrastructure. Support projects with technical scopes, feasibility studies, commissioning, and long-term asset replacement planning.
- Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance: Oversee asset health monitoring systems, including condition-based monitoring and predictive tools, to optimize maintenance strategies and asset life cycles.
- Risk & Critical Controls: Contribute to risk assessments, HAZOPs, and verification of electrical and mechanical critical controls to ensure safe, reliable operations.
- Lifecycle & Financial Planning: Develop lifecycle cost models, capital replacement strategies, and collaborate with finance, procurement, and OEMs on asset accounting, valuation, and optimization of spares.
- Team Development: Mentor junior engineers, advisors, and technical specialists to build capability in asset management and reliability engineering across the organization.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or business/commerce (or equivalent)
- Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering/maintenance and/or operational roles, with at least 10 years in mining or heavy industry
- Strong working knowledge of asset lifecycle management, condition monitoring, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles.
- Relevant industry experience in asset management principles (e.g., ISO 55000), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and risk-based inspection (RBI).
- Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
