Essential Duties & Functions
Strategy & Development
- Develop, own and execute on the business plan for the MGA/Program
- Accountable for risk capacity from affiliated and 3rd party capacity providers, developing and expanding
- Facilitate access to reinsurance markets and leverage established relationships with reinsurers to connect primary insurers with the right partners
- Analyze market trends and data to identify opportunities for growth and improvements
- Monitor program performance and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve desired outcomes
Leadership
- Build and shape Underwriting philosophy, guidelines and governance for the MGA/Program
- Provide leadership and guidance to the MGA team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and other departments to ensure seamless program execution
- Recruit and manage a strong program team and be accountable for the results
Market Intelligence & Growth
- Analyze market trends and data to identify opportunities for growth and improvements
- Monitor program performance and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve desired outcomes
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders
- Have a strong following and trust in the market with brokers and carriers
- Collaborate with underwriting, claims, IT, and other departments to ensure seamless program execution
Compliance & Operational Oversight
- Oversee the underwriting process and ensure that all policies are issued in compliance with the company's guidelines and reinsurance treaties
- Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in Reinsurance
- Demonstrated success in MGA or carrier environments with program development and management
- Strong analytical skills and business acumen
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Insurance, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
Preferred Attributes
- Strong experience in the reinsurance industry – treaty, QS and other structures
- Experience with property, casualty or other specialty lines
- Strong familiarity with carrier negotiations and reinsurance structures
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach to execution
