About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated Benefits & Payroll Intern with an interest in employee benefits and wellness to join our People Operations team. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting the administration of employee benefit programs and employee engagement initiatives. Under the guidance of the People Operations Manager, you will assist with day-to-day benefits operations, employee communications, and wellness activities while gaining practical HR knowledge.

Benefits & Payroll Intern Key Responsibilities:
- Support the administration of employee benefits programs (e.g., medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k))
- Assist employees with questions regarding benefit eligibility, enrollment, and claims processes
- Help coordinate open enrollment activities, including drafting communication materials and answering employee inquiries
- Create and distribute employee communications (emails, guides, FAQs, flyers) to promote understanding of benefits
- Assist in developing and supporting wellness initiatives, activities, and events that promote employee wellbeing
- Maintain and update benefits data in HRIS systems with accuracy and confidentiality
- Provide support with benefits-related paperwork such as enrollment forms, COBRA notices, and change requests
- Assist with invoice tracking and reconciliation for benefits programs
- Collaborate with external vendors on basic inquiries and escalate more complex matters to senior staff
- Help ensure compliance with benefits-related policies and procedures
- Support leave of absence processes, including documentation and communication
- Assist with payroll processing, helping ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Help reconcile payroll data and prepare payroll reports.
- Assist with reporting, data entry, and general administrative HR tasks as needed
Benefits & Payroll Intern Required Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or a related field
- Strong interest in employee benefits and HR operations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Canva or similar tools is a plus
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
Benefits & Payroll Intern Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship experience in Human Resources, with a focus on benefits or employee engagement
- Familiarity with HRIS or benefits administration platforms
- Exposure to HIPAA, COBRA, or ACA compliance concepts
- Experience creating employee communications or supporting wellness initiatives
