Position Summary
The Assistant Plant Manager (Second Shift) supports the Plant Manager in overseeing all aspects of production operations, ensuring safe, high-quality, and cost-efficient manufacture and timely delivery of customer orders. This role is critical in maintaining optimal flow from job creation through completion, managing people and processes to meet targets, and ensuring compliance with all policies and safety regulations.

- Oversee the flow of production for the second shift: ensure jobs are planned, scheduled, staffed, and executed efficiently.
- Assign and monitor work to personnel and equipment to meet production, quality, and safety goals.
- Maintain inventory control: manage receiving, stocking, internal distribution, and conduct regular cycle counts.
- Help develop, recommend, and implement continuous improvement systems to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, quality standards, and regulatory requirements among plant employees and contractors.
- Assist with hiring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions as directed by the Plant Manager.
- Monitor and report key performance metrics (e.g., production throughput, scrap, downtime, quality defects) for the second shift.
- Collaborate across shifts and departments (maintenance, quality, scheduling) to resolve production bottlenecks and ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications
- Experience: 1-3 years in manufacturing operations; ideally with exposure to contract/fabrication manufacturing.
- Familiarity with processes including laser cutting, welding, tube/pipe fabrication, quality control, production scheduling, and inventory management.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Solid computer skills: particularly Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with production /inventory systems is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; relevant technical or industrial certifications helpful.
- Dependability, strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure are essential.
