About the role
As the Bushfire Management Officer, you will coordinate Council’s bushfire management program as part of the City of Parramatta’s Natural Areas team. The role ensures best practice bushfire risk management and supports the objectives of the Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, and Ryde Bushfire Risk Management Plan. This is a dynamic position requiring collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver hazard reduction, community education, and continuous improvement in bushfire management practices
On a daily basis you will:
- Plan and deliver annual hazard reduction programs.
- Manage Asset Protection Zones and oversee contractors.
- Implement and review bushfire risk management plans and procedures.
- Respond to community bushfire enquiries and coordinate actions.
- Build partnerships with agencies, landholders, and community groups.
- Seek and coordinate grant funding for bushfire management.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, safety, and Council policies.
About You
The successful candidate should have previous experience in bushfire management, natural area management, or a related field, with a strong understanding of bushfire legislation and risk mitigation.
You will also bring:
- Proven ability to deliver hazard reduction, manage contractors, and develop community education programs.
- Excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to lead, coordinate, and deliver outcomes in a multidisciplinary environment.
Qualifications:
- Degree in bushfire management, ecology, land/natural resource management, or a related discipline
- NSW Class “C” Driver’s Licence.
What’s on offer
Full Time Term Contract up to 2 years.
We are offering an attractive remuneration from $104,610 to $115.174 plus 12% superannuation.
