The Communications Strategist (External Communications) is responsible for creating and delivering communication strategies that articulate Credit Union 1’s purpose and philosophy to members, community partners and the public. This role supports CU1’s reputation and visibility through exceptional writing, storytelling and media engagement while ensuring accuracy, compliance and consistency of the credit union’s brand message across all external platforms.

This position is based out of our Anchorage Headquarters (1941 Abbott Rd.) and is open to a Hybrid work schedule.

Pay Range: $29.99 - $44.86

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support the development and execution of CU1’s external communications strategy.
  • Write, edit and publish content for external audiences, including press releases, media statements, community engagement updates, website content, annual reports and award submissions.
  • Develop select areas of CU1’s social media content and respond to the credit union’s social inboxes and reviews, ensuring alignment with brand voice and responsiveness to public engagement.
  • Develop external campaign messaging to support community outreach, member engagement and brand reputation.
  • Write scripts and content for events, campaigns and public presentations.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications leadership on earned media and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Support CU1’s email communication strategy for members, including campaign development, accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor industry, media and social trends to identify proactive communication opportunities.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and brand consistency in all external communications.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate support for CU1’s mission, vision and values.
  • Travel and work outside of normal business hours may occasionally be required.
  • Support the Corporate Communications team in ensuring efficiency of day-to-day communications operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional communications or writing experience with proven excellence.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with ability to adapt content for diverse audiences and channels.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • High level of professionalism with ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with social media management tools preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and peers.
  • Preferred knowledge of state and Federal laws, industry regulations, principles, and practices; and company policies that govern CU1’s products/services.
  • This position is responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).

Please note: Credit Union 1 does not provide relocation assistance. If selected for an on-site position, candidates will be responsible for relocating to Alaska prior to the agreed upon start date at their own expense.
