Knife River is seeking a self-motivated, experienced Quality Control Technician to join our team at Honey Creek Quarry, located off Hwy 281 in Burnet, Texas. This role involves safely collecting and testing aggregate samples to support plant operations and job sites. The technician will work closely with the Quality Control team, Quarry Supervisors, and Sales staff in a dynamic quarry environment. Responsibilities also include assisting with laboratory functions and performing aggregate testing and sampling for HMAC, concrete, and flex base materials.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with proficiency in grammar and arithmetic.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must possess Aggregate 101 and SB 101 certifications or obtain them within one year of hire.
- Knowledge of aggregate gradations with previous QC laboratory equipment and technique experience.
- Ability to work under pressure, within tight deadlines to ensure deadlines are met.
- Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as needed, in all weather conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain files and records of testing and inspection activities.
- Provides recommendations to management on production-related matters.
- Documents and shares test results with relevant stakeholders timely.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Enhance skills through ongoing training and development.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues with material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.
- Ensure continuous compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR, and all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Examine and evaluate data to determine material quality in relation to specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to ensure safety and compliance.

Physical & Environmental Demands:
• Split time between office, laboratory, and field environments (quarries, sand plant, rail yards).
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Frequent and/or extended periods requiring standing, kneeling, bending, and/or twisting.
• Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for prolonged periods of time.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) required as necessary.
