ABOUT THE JOB

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, direction, and coordination of valves, pumps, skids, instruments, and general mechanical engineering across all products, including new builds, rental fleet, surplus assets, and investment recovery.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and reviews customer specifications to ensure alignment with company capabilities and project requirements.
  • Completes mechanical engineering designs for piping, tanks, valves, pumps, and related components, along with skid design, layout, and development for water treatment equipment.
  • Engineers projects by selecting and designing mechanical hardware, developing detailed plans to achieve project goals, and supporting the integration of technical activities.
  • Negotiates with customers to secure approval of product designs and modifications, while presenting and explaining proposals, reports, and findings.
  • Collaborates with functional teams and production staff to review project specifications and procedures that ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Prepares sales estimating tools for new, rental, and surplus contracts, and responds to customer inquiries related to mechanical equipment design, layout, and process integrity.
  • Reviews, assigns, directs, and evaluates contractor work, while overseeing workload distribution and assignments for design staff regarding the system’s mechanical aspects.
  • Performs administrative tasks including reviewing and writing reports, developing O&M manuals, creating purchase requisitions, and making procurement decisions for materials and services.
  • Ability to create CAD drawings for skid, tanks and piping layouts and / or provide sketches and details for CAD design staff to create drawings as needed.
  • May assist with rental startup services including installation and follow-up calls, and conducts training and equipment startups for customers to meet contract requirements related to mechanical design, equipment and component operation.
  • Prepares budgets, cost estimates, bids, and contracts for new and existing customers with regard to mechanical components.
  • Participates in the company’s business planning strategy and makes recommendations for facilities, human capital, and capital asset expenditures.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

ABOUT YOU:

  • B. S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Work experience of a minimum of 10 years in a related water and wastewater treatment industry.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of all company products and services.
  • Experience in working in a team environment where teamwork and collaboration are essential to complete the work assignments and attain the goals of the organization.
  • Interpersonal skills and abilities to develop and maintain strong internal and external customer and potential customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the overall business strategy and make recommendations within the scope of position responsibility.
  • Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Full knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications is required. Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical and electrical processes is required.
  • Tools and Equipment: Knowledge and ability to use power tools, wrenches, cements, hand cutters, saws, volt meters, conductivity/pH meters, computers, current sources, power supplies, hand tools.
  • Mechanical Design: Knowledge of design techniques, formulas, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Computers and Electronics: Basic knowledge of PLC electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and some programming.
  • Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Personal computer: Full knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Technology used in this position may include:
    • Analytical or scientific software – Knowledge and use of Reverse Osmosis Membrane manufacturer’s projection software to include, GE-WindFlow, Dow-ROSA, Hydranautics-IMSdesign and Toray-DS2. MS Project for scheduling. Misc design tools for pumps, valves and tank design.
    • Computer aided design CAD software — Autodesk AutoCAD software; AudoCadLt; Solid Works Modeling Software
    • Document management software — Adobe Systems Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended; Adobe Systems Adobe Life Cycle ES
    • Project management software — Microsoft Project; Primavera Systems software 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   

TRAVEL:

May be required to travel 15-25% of time per month.  

May travel outside the US or to international destinations three or more days per month. 

Expected Compensation: $100,000-130,000/year. (DOE) + 10% Bonus eligibility
