DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Review and manage assigned Claims Litigation files for the Company.
- Work closely with approved outside defense counsel, where appropriate, in devising and carrying out litigation strategies which achieve favorable outcomes for the Company and its policyholders.
- Within authorized limits, negotiate settlements with claimants and/or their representatives.
- Represent the Company in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other legal type proceedings related to Claims Litigation files.
- Report appropriate Claims and Claims Litigation files to the Company’s casualty reinsurance carrier.
- Assist, as requested, the other units of the Claims Department, with coverage and liability assessments.
- Coordinate efforts with claims managers as needed.
- Assist and provide guidance in connection with claims training on relevant topics as needed.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS
- Perform all other duties assigned by Senior Claims Litigation Manager.
QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required but will accept 10+ years relevant insurance claims experience in lieu of college degree; 3+ years insurance litigation experience required.
- Insurance designations preferred.
- Must have and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License and have a driving record that meets the underwriting requirements of the company.
- Requires excellent telephone, public relations, oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals, and other documents as required. Excellent telephone, public relations and oral/written communication skills are required.
Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in a fast paced office environment under pressure. Must be able to creatively think quickly and support positions as needed in negotiations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Must possess basic skills with computer; experience with Windows, word processing, and internet.
The employee must be able to organize and prioritize work; must have knowledge of office administration procedures and able to operate most standard office equipment. The employee must pay attention to detail in composing and proofing materials. Must be self-motivated with initiative and ability to make decisions and accept responsibility. Must be flexible to respond to unexpected situations that require immediate attention.
