The Jerome Robbins Dance Division is the world’s largest library and archive of dance material. The Supervising Librarian models and is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of public service across the Division and ensures that expert dance reference is provided at all public access points. In conjunction with the Curator, this position makes selections for both the general and circulating dance collections, anticipating current and future patron needs. The person in this role is passionate about dance history and will actively work to engage the broadest audience possible with extraordinary resources.
- Oversee the Dance Division’s general and circulating collections, working with central departments on the acquisition of new titles for both physical and ebooks, serials and moving image materials
- Supervise the housing and display of the Division’s general and circulating collections
- Lead projects to enhance circulation of general and circulating dance collections
- Liaise with the Arnhold Dance Education Coordinator to ensure that our circulating collections anticipate educator and student needs
- Liaise with the Dance Division’s Programs & Outreach Coordinator and the Curator to align collection titles with upcoming exhibitions and public programs
- Lead the Division’s public service and ensure that all patrons experience a stellar interaction with staff
- Schedule and assign public desks, email reference and outreach activities
- Maintain statistics and generate reports on collection usage
- Represent the Division at interdepartmental meetings and at external events
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies
- Experience with library public service
- Experience in an archival setting
- Experience working in and/or with the dance community
- Excellent public service skills
- Familiarity with various library and archival tools including ArchivesSpace, ILS, Aeon, Drupal, metadata management systems and Google suite.
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- This position has three direct reports
- Additionally, this position is responsible for executing and overseeing the Dance Division’s public service
