JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Engineer Water Resources

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Water Resources, this position is responsible for performing hydrologic and water resources studies, develop tools and models, and provide technical expertise to support hydroelectric operations, water management, and climate change adaptation. This role involves inflow forecasting, GIS mapping, stakeholder engagement, and supporting water agreements and business development.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

 

  • Develop, maintain, and implement hydrologic and hydraulic models and tools to support water management, inflow forecasting, and emergency response for hydroelectric facilities.
  • Act as subject matter expert on climate change impacts, representing the company in external discussions and supporting adaptation strategies for water resources.
  • Support negotiation, renewal, and administration of water agreements, including site tenure and water taker agreements, ensuring accurate computation and timely issuance of payments.
  • Provide technical advice to Plant Groups on inflow determination, water management planning, property, and real estate issues.
  • Develop and integrate GIS applications and data pipelines for watershed management, water level gauging, and decision support.
  • Represent the company on committees and regulatory forums, influencing policy, resolving stakeholder issues, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Prepare and disseminate watershed and hydroelectric facility information, such as reference guides and maps, using advanced technology and GIS tools.
  • Lead or support investigations related to secondary land use, historical, legal, and environmental matters, collaborating with internal and external partners as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or water resources engineering or a related field.
  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in hydrologic, hydraulic, or water resources engineering, including hydroelectric operations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental systems, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, and hydroelectric generation principles.
  • Experience with inflow forecasting, water resource management, and environmental impact assessment for hydroelectric facilities.
  • Proficiency in programming, data analysis, and database management for engineering applications.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
