SALARY: Pay is based on military rank (Officer/NCO), education level, and school funding.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The SAI is the department chairperson and chief instructor of the JROTC unit and works directly for the high school principal. The SAI is responsible for the overall management of the JROTC unit. The SAI formulates, establishes and executes procedures to be used in the instruction, administration, operations and logistics of the JROTC program.
The SAI will perform the following specific functions and responsibilities:
• Manage and conduct the JROTC unit according to Army and school rules, regulations and policies. Advise school authorities on policy and regulation changes.
• Maintain good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body. • Conduct a public affairs effort in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups and other individuals or groups, designed to promote and further the understanding of JROTC.
• Enroll students in JROTC.
• Teach the Army designed JROTC curriculum thoroughly and share teaching responsibilities equally with the Army Instructor (AI).
• Execute robust after school, integrated, co-curricular activity program.
• Develop and implement the annual master training schedule.
• Maintain contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
• Ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly.
• Maintain accountability of all government equipment.
• Supervise and evaluate the Army Instructor (AI).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The SAI is a separated or retired commissioned officer, warrant officer or senior non-commissioned officer within the past 5 years with at least 8 years of cumulative honorable service or currently serving in Army Reserve or National Guard. Candidates for this position must possess at least a BA/BS degree and must also be certified by US Army Cadet Command. Teacher certification is not required.
