HVAC Mechanic / General Maintenance Technician - Maintenance Department

Permanent, full-time, 12-months / 8 hours per day / benefit eligible

Reports To

Maintenance Director/Maintenance Supervisor

Salary:  FLSA:  Non-Exempt

Grade 65/68  ($3,308.36  - $4,809.07), plus local supplement   

The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position.  Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes.  For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment.
• HVAC license preferred
• Relevant work experience preferred
• General knowledge of basic electrical, HVAC, including boilers, chiller maintenance, service and operation and other   motor mechanics
• Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
• Frequent and high climbing
• Must be able to drive/operate a variety of vehicles (dump truck, tractor, construction equipment, etc)
• Work in extreme temperatures; tolerate dust, chemicals and other substances and environmental conditions associated with maintenance work
• Emotionally mature, able to work cooperatively, cope with stress appropriately and abruptly change tasks in a composed manner

Duties/Skills

• Basic maintenance and repair work in the areas of HVAC, including boilers, chiller maintenance, service and   operation,
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical control circuits, using electrical test devices
• Change HVAC filters
• Service air compressors and air dryers for HVAC equipment
• Replaces faulty thermostats, wiring and controls
• Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of ventilation, air conditioning and environmental control equipment
• Observe all safety rules
• Other duties as assigned
