Reporting to the Program Manager, the Material Segregator / Classifier will support operations at the Hawthorne Army Depot. This position is responsible for receiving, identifying, segregating, and documenting material from federal agencies and depot activities. The role requires attention to detail, knowledge of material control processes, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

 

This is a contingent position expected to be located in Hawthorne, NV. The pay range for the position will be provided at the time the position is no longer contingent. 

What You'll Do

  • Receive and verify the identity, completeness, and condition of incoming material and property.

  • Document material data, including stock number, description, dollar value, condition, weight, and quantity.

  • Research available publications (e.g., stock lists, technical orders, GSA catalogs) to accurately classify and describe material.

  • Segregate and clearly mark material to prevent mixing; determine reutilization, resale, or scrap value.

  • Prepare documentation for material shortages or discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with releasing organizations.

  • Support Scrap Sales operations, including photographing, describing, and documenting material for disposal or resale.

  • Operate forklifts, vehicles, and material handling equipment to transport, stow, or load/unload material.

  • Use weighing equipment to determine gross or axle weight of incoming and outgoing vehicles.

  • Maintain a safe and organized work area, including general housekeeping duties within assigned facilities.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and hazardous material handling requirements.

  • Report potential safety or environmental concerns to leadership.

  • Bid and proposal support if requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable NCIC III background check.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • One (1) years of experience in Property Disposal Operations; OR two (2) years of experience in Munitions Handling functions required.

  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Must be fluent in speaking and writing the English Language.

  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Physical Requirements:

 

  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds. 
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities. 
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision. Examples may include but are not limited to: Electric/Diesel Forklift, CNC Milling Machine, Welding/Soldering, CAT III Overhead Crane, pallet jack, "Big Joe" stand-behind pallet lift mechanism, and more. 
  • Ability to pass initial and random drug testing, medical exams, and respiratory fit testing (RFT) required. 
  • Travel Required ~10% travel required.
