The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Infrastructure Management and Planning provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for the university’s physical infrastructure and long-term campus development. This role is responsible for planning, managing, and maintaining facilities, utilities, capital projects, and sustainability initiatives to ensure that the university’s infrastructure supports academic excellence, student life, and institutional growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive infrastructure and facilities master plan that supports long-term institutional priorities.
- Provide strategic guidance on capital investments, deferred maintenance, space utilization, and sustainability initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Vice President for Administration/Finance and senior leadership on infrastructure-related decisions.
- Oversee operations of facilities, utilities, energy systems, and grounds to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Direct planning, design, and execution of capital construction, renovation, and modernization projects.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, environmental regulations, and accessibility requirements.
- Lead efforts to improve sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible practices across campus.
- Develop and manage budgets for infrastructure, capital projects, and facilities operations.
- Optimize resources by balancing institutional priorities, fiscal responsibility, and long-term cost savings.
- Oversee vendor contracts, procurement processes, and external service agreements.
- Engage with community leaders, city/state agencies, and external stakeholders to ensure strong relationships and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate infrastructure plans, initiatives, and project updates effectively to the university community.
- Provide direction, mentorship, and professional development to staff in facilities, planning, and project management units.
- Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in workforce development and campus design initiatives.
Education
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Bachelor’s required).
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure management, facilities planning, or capital project leadership, preferably in higher education or complex organizations.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
