The purpose of this position is to engage clients with warmth, hospitality and professionalism as they seek to access care at Silver Hill Hospital. This position will interface with internal and external stakeholders to create a seamless, high-quality patient experience. This position reports to the Director of Admissions.
Schedule
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00am to 8:30pm.
- Standard 36-hour work week.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Effectively coordinates and maintains the admissions process for scheduled and unscheduled patients (aka “walk ins”), following the Admissions protocol set forth by leadership
- Placing the patient in the EMR system upon arrival
- Verifies that all assessments and needed paperwork have been completed by appropriate parties (e.g. Admitting MD and Admitting RN)
- Communicates and adheres to doctor recommendations
- Able to multitask effectively and problem-solve as needed to ensure effective management and patient safety
- Completes all necessary registration documents with the patient/guardian/patient representative (e.g. ROI, Demos, Telehealth)
- Scanning all completed documents into the EMR
- Administering the patient survey unless clinically indicated that it is not appropriate to do (e.g. patient is in acute psychiatric distress, inebriated, etc.)
- Coordinates with units when the patient is ready to be transported to the unit
- Escorts patient to designated areas as needed (e.g. taking the patient to provide a urine sample)
- Effectively communicate any ongoing needs/changes/concerns for patient safety to the admitting nurse, and/or admitting MD
- Be proactive and vigilant about assessing any safety concerns, and calling for security or a hospital emergency (psychiatric, medical, or elopement) over the SHH Radio
- Provide ongoing support for patients and their families during the admissions process
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
- Demonstrates competency in assessing adolescents (ages 13-18) and adults (18+)
- Demonstrates competency on suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention
Education and Experience:
- Minimum master’s degree in mental health or a related field
- At least 3 years’ experience in a behavioral health care setting and admissions position
- Experience with electronic medical records a plus
- CPR and PMPE or CPI certification required after hire and before assignment to patient care duties
Physical:
- A significant amount of movement – sitting, getting up, walking throughout the shift, and walking up and down stairs
- May require extended periods of standing
- Some heavy lifting (>10 lbs.)
