Description
Forklift Operator will assist in the manufacturing and shipping process. The employee’s responsibilities include keeping the production area, and strictly following health and safety guidelines. When working in the shipping department the employee will retrieve stock to fill customer orders and transport items to the shipping desk for packing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identifies and transports requested materials to and from various locations including production areas, loading docks, and storage areas.
- Obtains production schedule and/or shipping orders and then identifies, verifies, and transports requested materials accordingly.
- Applies understanding of machine loading capacity and loading schedule, ensuring prompt and efficient delivery of required items.
- Uses protective materials and strapping equipment to protect and secure loads; once delivered, removes strapping and wrapping, then safely disposes of waste materials in designated containers or areas.
- Reports any problems with materials or transportation to supervisor.
- Manages and piles pallets and other materials in specified areas.
- Services equipment as needed, reporting mechanical or electrical difficulties to maintenance mechanics.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Certified as a Forklift Operator (preferred) or to have the ability to get a Forklift Operator certification.
- Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.
- Ability to operate various materials handling equipment such as hand trucks, and pallet jacks when needed.
- Able to work as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Previous experience working in a factory is beneficial.
- Valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
- Satisfactorily pass forklift driving training program or demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
- Must be able to move and lift up to 50-pounds.
- Work overtime and weekends when required.
