About School-College-Work Initiative(SCWI)
The dual credit program at Durham Collegeallows students to participate in post-secondary courses, earning dual creditsthat count towards their high school diploma, as well as earning a college course credit that maycount towards a future post-secondary diploma, degree or apprenticeship.
Dual credits engage students through exposure to college courses andculture while supporting their successful transition to post-secondaryeducation. Each year, over 2,000 area high school students take a dual creditprogram with Durham College. SCWI is proud to be partnered with Durham CatholicDistrict School Board, Durham District School Board, Kawartha Pine RidgeDistrict School Board, and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland ClaringtonCatholic District School Board.
Position Information:
TheFaculty of Liberal Studies’ School College Work Initiative at Durham College isseeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment toincrease secondary student engagement, confidence and success in a collegecourse to teach Basic Electrical (TFBE 1301).
Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours perweek with varied schedules Monday through Friday during regular high schoolhours. The majority of courses aredelivered as two 75-minute classes in alignment with the high school timetableand periods.
Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which couldinvolve teaching at a high school located in Durham Region, or in some cases,on the college campuses. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:
Part-time recruitment is ongoing and isdependent on when courses are being taught and the need for faculty to teach.
The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
- Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
- Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
- Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
- Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
- Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering Technician or Technology Diploma or provincially certified Electrician (309a or 309c or 442a).
- Certificate of Apprenticeship is considered an asset.
- Master Electrical License is considered an asset.
- A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) work experience as an electrician.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
- Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
- Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
- Proven track record of life-long learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
- Understanding of the Ontario college system.
- Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire.
Preferencewill be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proventrack record of relevant work/teaching experience.
