AboutSchool-College-Work Initiative (SCWI):
The dual creditprogram at Durham College allows students to participate in post-secondarycourses, earning dual credits that count towards their high school diploma, aswell as earning a college course credit that may count towards a futurepost-secondary diploma, degree or apprenticeship.
Dual credits engage students through exposure tocollege courses and culture while supporting their successful transition topost-secondary education. Each year, over 2,000 area high school students takea dual credit program with Durham College. Position Information:
The Faculty ofLiberal Studies’ School College Work Initiative at Durham College is seeking anexperienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to increasesecondary student engagement, confidence and success in a college course toteach Sheet Metal Fabrication (HVMF 1401).
Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours perweek with varied schedules Monday through Friday during regular high schoolhours. The majority of courses are delivered as two 75-minute classes inalignment with the high school timetable and periods.
Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which couldinvolve teaching at a high school located in Durham Region, or in some cases,on the college campuses. IMPORTANT NOTEFOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:
Part-timerecruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught andthe need for faculty to teach.
The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
- Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
- Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
- Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
- Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
- Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- A Certificate of Qualification 313A or 313D and Gas Technician (G1) license.
- Working knowledge of Energy Act, HVAC related Code, CSA standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
- Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
- Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
- Proven track record of life-long learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
- Understanding of the Ontario college system.
- Must be able to provide a clean VulnerableSector Check (VSC) upon hire
